Spring is finally here, meaning that winter hibernation is officially over. Getting back into a fitness routine can feel challenging, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. Discover seven enjoyable activities that will have you springing into movement in no time.

1.  Hiking

Hitting the trail this spring to clear your head, enjoy fresh air and admire blooming flowers. It’s a great cardiovascular workout you can do with friends and family. For beginners, start with shorter trails and gradually increase distance and difficulty. If hiking alone, let a loved one know where you’ll go.

2.  Yoga

Practising yoga on a sandy beach or in a forest lets you enjoy the fresh air and sunlight. The sights and sounds of nature can help you feel less distracted, deepening your connection to your body and breath. After your practice, wander off to a relaxing spot and let the benefits of the exercise soak in.

3.  High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

HIIT is a powerful activity that can help decrease the risk of heart disease, breast cancer and osteoarthritis. It’s an excellent alternative for stepping on the stairmaster or running on the treadmill. Consider doing the following exercises:

     Burpee to lateral jump squat

     Walking lunges

     Single-leg bicycles

     Planks

4.  Adult Park Workouts

Park workouts are an excellent outdoor activity for people of all fitness levels. It has various equipment like monkey bars and balance beams for strength training exercises. Moreover, parks have spacious grassy areas ideal for floor routines.

Hang from a large tree branch to practice pull-ups. Find a bench and perform tricep dips. Practice some push-ups with your friends. Do all of these while soaking in the sun.

5.  Slacklining

Slacklining is like walking on a tightrope but on a flat piece of webbing. It’s ideal for balance training, whether you’re an athlete or undergoing a physiotherapy program. Like yoga, this activity is an intentional practice — the more time and focus you put into it, the stronger your mind-body connection will be.

6.  Pickleball

Pickleball has been getting all the attention for many years. It’s the fastest-growing sport in the United States, despite it being around since 1965. It’s a fun exercise that kids and kids at heart can play and enjoy its health benefits. While you can play pickleball indoors or outdoors, it’s best to take the game outside so you can take in fresh air.

7.  Golf

The warmer weather means more time to hit the course. Golf can offer some mental relief as you enjoy the sunshine and stroll along the greenery. Golf is a great low-intensity outdoor activity that includes light cardio and strength training. While it is an appropriate game for people of all ages, people with back and joint issues should take caution and do some stretching before playing to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness.

Health Benefits of Exercising Outdoors in Spring

Outdoor activities offer various health benefits that your present and future self will appreciate.

Reduced stress: Being in nature gives you that much-needed pause from life’s responsibilities, which can help lower your cortisol levels.

Improved sleep: Daily natural light exposure can help regulate sleep-wake cycles, contributing to more restful sleep.

Increased vitamin D levels: Your body absorbs this fat-soluble vitamin from the sunlight.

Enhanced memory: Outdoor activities can help improve your attention and memory skills.

Get Active Outside

Staying fit this spring doesn’t have to be a chore. Try out these activities to rediscover the fun in working out. Who knows, you might just find a new passion.
